about early feeding

Maarten Hollemans MSc, Innovation Manager at Coppens Animal Feed has recently presented a study which proves that the residual yolk is unsuited to be used as feed for day-old chicks. "Residual yolk is no lunchbox", says Mr. Hollemans.

Essential for broiler development

“Early feeding is extremely important. The availability of feed and water immediately post-hatch is essential for the broiler’s development”, says Mr. Hollemans. In HatchCare, chicks benefit from ad lib acces to light, feed and water immediately post-hatch, during the 0-36 hours lasting hatch window. This leads to about 15% extra growth at pull and far less mortality.

Foundation of healthy antibiotic-free production

“We definitely see the potential of early feeding as the foundation of antibiotic-free production. This is also what the field results confirm at the moment”, says Mr. Hollemans.
