We looked at the American technology and decided we wanted to go more modern, so we chose HatchCare. When you see the birds go through this system, this is the way of the future I believe. It is the opportunity to have an antibiotic free animal that has been raised in a very welfare friendly system, which we have here. It is going to make it easier on the farms and it will make it easier to get the birds to the market.

‘Customers see the advantage’

HatchCare helps us contribute to reducing antibiotic use by delivering chicks with more vitality. At the same time, we can enhance animal welfare by providing direct access to feed and water in the hatcher. Customers tell us that this is an advantage, because there are more systems that offer feed and water at an early stage. However, our customers don’t lose any turnover rate and they don’t have to make the investment in their own poultry house.

‘The whole chain will benefit from it’

Personally I see this as a very important step forward. Having water, feed and light available from the moment of hatching is a plus for animal welfare. But it also clearly improves the development of the chicken.  The chickens always stay in the same basket as they have hatched in, so the whole traditional processing situation is obsolete. The advantage of this is fewer stressful moments for the chicken.  It is also very open, and people can clearly see how things are done. I think this will improve the hatchery image and that the whole chain will benefit from it.
